Taking a Gamble

Just been reading the link below detailing the writer's life of rejection. Well done to Kate Foster for her caution and persistence! There are so many agents/publishers you need to do your homework on. At Dogberry, we're not going to lure writers in to a 'hybrid' (author pays half) or vanity (author pays all) deal. These kind of arrangements reap rewards for the publisher up until the book comes out, thereafter the marketing often grinds to a halt. Publishers such as these also stall chances in important writing competitions. Furthermore, who wants to gamble months of work on a book deal when the book will fizzle out within a year of publication, bought only by family and friends?
